Start your favorite app at the desktop by pressing single button in keyboard:
1. Create a shortcut for that app at the desktop.
2. Select that shortcut icon and goto Properties (ALT+ENTER)
3. Click on 'shortcut key' field and press your shortcut button. Click OK.
